Hema commenced her pupilage in the Chambers of Mr. Logan Sabapathy of Messrs Logan Sabapathy & Co. Upon being admitted to the Malaysian Bar in November 1996, she was retained as a Legal Assistant at Messrs Logan Sabapathy & Co. and remained there for a period of five (5) years assisting the senior partners in a wide variety of corporate litigation matters where she gained exposure in the art of drafting complex pleadings in litigation matters relating to companies and shareholders disputes. In March of 2000, Hema then joined Messrs Liza Chan & Co as a senior Legal Assistant before becoming an equity partner in 2006. In Messrs Liza Chan & Co, she gained substantial exposure and experience in the area of family law leading her to handle various disputed divorce proceedings, property distribution and custody matters.

In January 2005, Hema was made an equity partner of Messrs Liza Chan & Co. Whilst at Messrs Liza Chan & Co, she was also involved in the area of conveyancing and corporate practice. Hema has gained much exposure in the art of drafting complex pleadings in litigation matters relating to companies and shareholders disputes. In so far as corporate agreements are concerned, Hema has substantial experience in drafting Joint Venture Agreements, Sale of Share Agreements, Consultancy Agreements, Option Agreements and a myriad of other related Corporate Agreements.

The urge to establish and manage her own legal practice in collaboration with Rubini Thirugnanam led to the formation of Messrs Hema Rubini & Co on 1.5.2007 and subsequently effect from 1st September 2009, Hema Rubini & Co merged with Messrs Mathews Hun Kandiah and the result was the formation of a new entity known as Kandiah Partnership. The partnership is a materialization of a common vision for the delivery of quality legal services with a “hands on” approach.
